I am thinking of buying one of these two laptops.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-15-6-laptop-intel-pentium-4gb-memory-500gb-hard-drive-black/7017064.p?id=1219247540741&skuId=7017064

or

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-15-6-laptop-amd-a6-series-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-black/1576208.p?id=1219502527428&skuId=1576208

I think the second one (LENOVO G50 - 80E3016QUS) is better as it has more storage and more ram. Although its $90 cheaper, which is good but it also makes me think I am missing something. One difference is the processor Pentium N3530 vs AMD A66310 which seem to be of similar quality (http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Pentium-N3530-vs-AMD-A6-6310).

Which of the two is the better machine? Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help!

Both of those are basically netbook CPUs, though the AMD one is semi-respectable at gaming.

The following i3 HP laptop is on sale for $299 at Best Buy right now.

And this i3 Dell is supposed to be sale for $299 in-store at Staples (advertised in their paper flyer), although it shows up as $449 online.

I would consider the Intel one
It has a better CPU with higher clock speed

You could always upgrade the 4gb ram to something bigger in the future

But if you feel like you need the 8GB now go with AMD

Clock speed is just one of many factors in CPU performance.
This isn't an Intel desktop CPU, it is Bay Trail.
Things would be looking much better on the intel side with a Haswell-U or Broadwell-U processor:

Thanks! The Dell is a great find, just called them and will pick it up in store tomorrow morning.

To be sure, the Dell is a better laptop than the Lenovo's? (THe HP is already sold out)

I'm not sure that it is better.
Processors are pretty close:
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-4010U-vs-AMD-A6-6310
The Intel is a dual core CPU with hyper-threading compared to the 4 core AMD.
You really have to get up to the Core i7 U series CPUs to get a major advantage from Intel.

The Lenovo AMD has more RAM and a bigger hard drive. The graphics performance is at least as good too, since both rely on integrated graphics.
Personally I'd go with the A6 in this price range.
The only real advantage I can see with the Dell is that you should get longer battery life from the more efficient Intel CPU.

Though thats all true I dont think you will be disappointed with the Dell Laptop, you still get alot of power from CPU
