I saw that sony made a power media dock (Sony VGP-PRZ20C) which includes a higher end gpu among other things for its sony Z series it runs through what seems to be a usb 3.0 connector. my question is would there be a way to run this on a different laptop than the Z series like my lenovo yoga?

No, it works exclusively with Z series notebooks. Most likely micro-code support in the BIOS is necessary for compatibility. The product page specifically states that it does not work with other Sony notebooks or other notebook models.
