What's the deal with Lenovo W Series Laptops?

Thanks for allowing me membership. I'm checking out Lenovo Laptops, I have one and like it, and was considering a replacement. Anyhow In order to get a W series LT with 32 GB of RAM you have to take the i7 4th generation processor. If you opt for the 5th generation processor, RAM maxes out at 16GB. Why wouldn't the newest W series LT support more RAM than the older unit?

Is this something that will probably change in short order?

Consider something else. Lenovo installs adware on their products. They've also been accused of installing back doors in the past. It doesn't matter if your laptop is affected or not. The fact that they do this at all should dissuade anyone from buying their products.

I saw that thank you. Typically as soon as a get a computer I wipe the HDD and do a clean install and get all the junk out. I was just wondering the reasoning behind why the older chip configuration offers a higher RAM option than the newer one that's all. -AD

This is Intel Broadwell cpu series. It appears that the lower the TDP (thermal design power), the less memory support.
Y series support 8 gb memory. (TDP = 3.5 - 4.5 watts).
U series support 16 gb memory. (TDP = 15-28 watts).
H series will support 32 gb memory (TDP = 47 watts) (2nd quarter 2015 release).

So it looks like you can get 32 gb of memory if you wait a bit, or go with older gen CPU.

Thanks. That helped a lot. It looks like 32 GB and 5th the generation i7 will should be in full swing just before the release of Win 10. It might be a bit cheaper too because the next latest and greatest will be out.
