Hey all, my girlfriends laptop just got fried a couple weeks back and i was looking to get one for her as she really needs one for school and just general use, but i'm having trouble finding one. Any recommendations on laptops around a 400$ budget? Like i said she would only be using it for general use like word documents and video streaming so it doesn't have to be anything too fancy but of course would like to get the best for that budget. Also a 13 " to 15" screen would be great! . Thanks in advance!:)

I just got an HP 350 G1 with the i3 4005U and HD 4600 GPU a few months ago and it works pretty good for office and school use. It might even run a few games as well in 720p. I added a Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB SSD for another $60 (the 850 is out now for the same price). They are $406 shipped at newegg. That is a $200 discount. I got mine on Black Friday for $350. You might find a cheaper one from a different brand but HP is prety good in terms of quality and customer service. If anything goes wrong within the warranty, they pay for shipping to them.

It has a 15.6 inch screen in the standard budget resolution of 1366x768 a 500 GB HDD and 4 GB RAM, all more than enough for school and office work. It also has a DVD burner which many laptops are starting to phase out and bluetooth. The thing I liked about this is that it comes with Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) but also gives you the option to upgrade to Windows 8.1 if you choose which is a hell of a good thing to have. Pro Windows version alone costs about $130 meaning you get the laptop hardware itself for about $270.
