I want a laptop that I can use for school work and for some decent gaming. I need it to be sturdy and able to last ad least 2 years.
Preferred...
Screen size: around 15
Resolution: ad least 1080 hd
Battery life: 5-7 hours
Brand: reliable brand that sells in USA
memory: 500gb> and some ssd

Solution
well typically speaking the more expensive the item or in this case laptop the better parts were used to make it therefore the longer it will last if you dont feel comfortable spending 12999 on a laptop thats a new 2015 model and will last you awhile then by all means go with the asus one i posted for 879$ it should last you awhile plus you can always take the leftover money you have and use it to upgrade the laptop to make it better

hello there as tanner aid without a budget its kind of hard to help you but i can offer a few suggestions

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232195

that one is a 15 inch and is on the thinner side of laptops and will be able to handle games on low to medium settings and its on the cheaper side

that one is a newer 2015 model and will handle games on medium to high settings and it will last you a long time it is also a 15inch screen

now if u plan on playing simple games like minecraft or runescape then any laptop with a core I7 and intel hd graphics 4000 will work fine those laptops i mentioned above will run games like far cry 4 gta v and dragon age inquisition but with no price point to work with this is all i can do for now hope this helps good luck on your search

Well, any gaming laptop will last easily many years for general college stuff. My $250 Acer Aspire worked well enough for two years of college XD.

As far as games are concerned...

The GTX 860m will put less demanding games on ultra at 1080p easily, usually above 60 fps. (Dota, Dishonored, Mass Effect 3, CSGO, Skyrim, etc)

It'll put more demanding games on high at 1080p, around 45 fps.
(Far Cry 3, Thief, Battlefield 4, etc)

It'll put the most demanding games on medium, sometimes at 768p to keep over 30 fps. (Far Cry 4, Dragon Age Inquisition, Assassin's Creed Unity, etc)

Cards like the GTX 965m or GTX 970m will put you over budget, and aren't necessary to make a laptop last years for classes, but will help a lot in the newest games.

The GTX 860m is one of the most common cards in gaming laptops.

If you're planning on mostly less demanding games, older games, MMOs, or anything like that, then the GTX 850m will easily be enough.
