How can I hook up my powered speakers with 3.5mm jack to a tv that doesn't have a 3.5mm jack?

I'm trying to hook up my old powered computer speakers, with a 3.5mm plug, to my TV that doesn't have a 3.5mm jack. How can I do this?

I do have this

But when I've tried in the past, it didn't work. I just got a new TV and I had assumed that setup wouldn't work with it. I'll definitely give it a new try when I get home from work. I may go back to Radio Shack and get the male RCA to female 3.5mm cable to see if the coupling is where the problem is.
