Processor upgrade for laptop

I have my brothers desktop pc with an i5 3330 processor. i am planning to remove it from the desktop into my hp g42 laptop which has an i5 460m processor. i would like to know if it is compatible. thanks.

In short, no. They use different sockets. I know that a number of laptop processors are soldered in place as it uses less space and I wouldn't be surprised if your is one of them.

thanks for the quick reply. my laptop's processor is not soldered in place, i have actually removed it a couple of times in the past.

In 99% of laptops a desktop CPU will not work. Look up what socket type the CPUs are.
