Ok so after 4 years i'm going to re-install Windows on my laptop (used it while i was at uni and it's playing up slightly best to re-format) problem is i have no idea how to do that as there were no recovery disks that came with it and i did do a backup but it wasn't a disk it was on the HDD (it states)

Laptop came with Samsung Recovery as standard

It's Windows 7, i bought before Windows 8 came out

If you plan to make a full fresh installation, first of all make sure to have ready all of your laptop drivers, they should be available to download from your laptop's website.

If not you might need to extract them from your current installation, there are some programs to do that but we'll look at that only if you can't manage to get them (download latest ones available) from the website.

Then proceed to start your laptop with your Windows 7 DVD Installation disk, using the boot menu key at POST or by entering BIOS and changing your boot priority setting the DVD drive as the first one.

Ah so you intend to use the Samsung recovery? check your manual on how to use it then.

If you instead want to do a fresh install, you'll need to get a Windows 7 installation DVD, I believe you can download a legit copy from microsoft server's and burn it onto a dvd, link is inside this thread:

but you still have the serial key written on your laptop, hopefully still readable? otherwise I think there's a command to retrieve the key from your current installation, there was another thread where such command was posted, try looking for "retrieve oem key from cmd" or something like that.

Yeah it is still readable but you can also get from inside windows itself

I've never reinstalled a system with an OEM license, so if that works directly then good, however makes me wonder why in that other thread they needed to retrieve the key via commands, there were more than 1 person interested in that solution.
