Black screen after logging on

I have a HP Stream Notebook - 11-d010nr & after I log on it, the screen goes black. The only thing I see is the mouse. What could be wrong with it& how could I fix it?

Do you have windows 8.1? Been seeing this a lot lately.

Did you install any new software? i see this when people try to search for Chrome/Firefox and download the wrong program

It sounds like either a driver issue with the Intel graphics, or a problem with the Intel graphics at a hardware level.

The laptop appears to have an HDMI out port. Are you able to connect a TV or external monitor using that and get a picture?

Its not a driver issue. If he can get to the user screen, and then goes black when he logs in, its not a driver issue. A driver issue would usually cause Restarts, BSODs, or Nothing after the windows loading screen. Never come across a PC with a Video driver issue that prevented you from logging in.

But try starting up in safe mode. Pretty sure it will start up. If it doesn't then something is going on. Maybe bad hard drive as well.
