Audio from computer to tv using 3.5mm to rca

I am trying to connect my pc audio to my tv with 3.5mm to rca. I plugged the 3.5 into the audio out on the computer and the rca to the audio in on the computer. The computer showed it was playing sound, but none was heard. I played around and I was able to get audio with the 3.5 in the computer audio in and the tv audio out, but it was barely audible. Thr computer model numver is CQ5300F and the tv model number is 32hl67us.

The PC should be OUT and the tv should be IN.

Assuming you connected it as GeRgY says your TV may not engage the input you connected the audio without a video signal too.

I'm sorry, I do have video to the TV, but it is with a vga cable; there is no hdmi port on the computer. I know that the computer should be audio out and the tv audio in, but there was no sound at all, that's why I played around with the connections. I also tried the headphone jack on the front of the computer, but that didn't work at all.
