After getting on my PC (windows 7) this afternoon, I noticed my headset made what sounded like a clicking sound in just the left ear, and didn't provide any other audio at all, nor did the mic on it work. I tried different cords, but to no avail. When I go to playback devices and recording devices, my microphone and speakers say they aren't plugged in, but occasionally flash saying they are - however only for a split second. Any help appreciated!

Sounds like a jack issue or maybe soundcard. Try re-installing the drivers, try a different port if you have another one.

Resetting the BIOS may help if it's onboard sound, if it's a desktop pull the CMOS battery for about 10 seconds after unplugging the computer from power.

I have a desktop by the way, and my headset works with other computers. I tried pulling out the CMOS battery for 10 seconds, and re-installing the drivers but the issue still exists.

My only other port on my desktop is the front panel, however no matter what I try those have never really worked for me (headphones or mic). I'v disabled front panel jack detection (and fiddled with most other audio manager settings), and I'v triple checked all the wiring on the motherboard. It shows that sound is being broadcasted in the playback tab, however I can't hear anything through the headset.

My guess is that I at one point yanked on the cord and it may have done something to the back panel ports, and so I'm borrowing a usb sound card from a friend to test tomorrow.
