Hi peeps

I'm not sure if this is the correct section, but here's my problem.

A few days ago, ads started popping up randomly on my browser when I click on some links. And on certain occasion, when I click the middle mouse button on a link so that it would open on a new tab, the ads website shows up instead and the link that I wanted to access was blocked by my browser. I suspect that my pc might have contracted adware and thus carried out a full system scan using Avira anti virus.

Based on the scan, there's 2 viruses on my pc whereby both are TR/BProtector.Gen2, which i assume is not an adware due to the TR prefix. However, I've moved both items into quarantine anyways but the problem still persist. I'm not sure whether or not do delete these files as I'm not sure if they are important to the OS or whatsoever. Files affected are: ccp.exe and 67E7.tmp

Can anyone help me on fixing this? The browser I'm currently using is Google Chrome.

Thanks in advance :)

Also you should check for any browser extensions/plugins that may have been installed by the adware. These sometimes don't get removed by virus/malware scanners. Click on the menu icon in chrome (the button at the top right with 3 horizontal bars). Then go to More Tools > Extensions. Make sure everything in that list is something that you want. If you don't recognize a plugin, uninstall it.

I would disinfect your entire PC and then scan with malwarebytes. After that, I would recommend using an adblocker with chrome, like Adblock Plus which will stop ads popping up at all.

Hi,

reboot in safe mode with networking and goto bleepingcomputer

Download adwcleaner, rogukiller and malwarebyte anti malware and clean your system.

If the infection persiste (and using windows 7 or under), download combofix but follow the guide on bleepingcomputer

this worked.. thanks :D

Apparently it's because i downloaded quicktime for chrome which i thought was developed by apple.. but after checking the extension again, only then i noticed that it was developed by a third party called iWeb Solutions, and based on the reviews of the extensions, many other users are saying that they faced the same problem with popups after they installed this extension..
