Help me decide! Asus G751JT-CH71 OR Msi Ge 62 Apache?

Ok well basically I wanted to purchase a new laptop that had the new gtx 900m series graphics card and I found these two laptops. I don't have a very high budget (max around 1600) so it thought these two were good for their prices. But for the life of me, I can't decide which one i want to get. http

I don't need too much portability, but I'm not looking for anything that can't be carried more than a couple metres either, I was leaning towards the Apache, but wasn't sure if sacrificing the 970m for more portability and a 965m is worth it.

The apache is quite a bit lighter so if you need portability go with that. It's also got a bit faster processor as well.

Yeah thanks for the reply, I am probably going to get the Apache, but because it's been released just recently, I can't find any reviews, and am not sure of what it's cooling and benchmarks are like.

While you are right to be concerned about no reviews, I do think this laptop is going to be good. It uses Nvidia's new maxwell architecture, which is very efficient. I don't expect much fan noise as a result of this (same thing for the desktop version of the cards). The benchmarks, likewise, will be good.

For the price point, the apache is more than worth a gamble. It's a bit slower GPU but quicker CPU for much less money.

I will probably be getting the Apache when it hits my area mainly because it is a lot cheaper than the Asus here. Just wanted to say that I have seen that the Apache will be avalliable with a gtx970m and the price difference won't be big. Keep in mind due to being more powerful the 970m will have more heat a a shorter battery life but I don't know any numbers

I really do wish Nvidia has the power target feature in their drivers like AMD does. It lets you set a maximum wattage, which in turn lets you get much time out of the system if you can deal with lower graphics or less frames.

I have heard of undervolting CPU and GPU is this the same just easier?

It's much easier. Built into the driver control panel, there are power management options where you can set a limit to how much the card can draw. If you want, there are also fan temperature and speed targets as well.

I recently got a Nvidia card and have been very disappointed with the drivers. Compared to AMD, they don't have many options at all.
