This is my first post and I am stoked to have found this forum.
Ok, I have a laptop I am going to upgrade the wifi card on so I can get better performance.

Currently the wifi card is a REALTEK RTL8187B MINI-PCI-e Wireless WiFi LAN Card 802.11b/g.

I have gained access to the card and dont have a problem replacing it but dont know what to upgrade to? I also have read briefly about the possibility of my laptop having a hardware "whitelist" and want to know how to ensure I find a card that will work. From what i read the "whitelist is limited and the approved items in the list might be more expensive and lack real bennefit as a way of limiting the user from trying to upgrade.
Is there a way of finding a card that i can use and then bypass the "whitelist" or edit the list or even remove the list?
Operating system is windows 7 ultimate
Model TOSHIBA Satellite A215-S7422 NoteBook AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 (1.90GHz) 1GB Memory 160GB HDD ATI Radeon X1200 IGP 15.4 Inch

HDD upgraded to 1TB and ram Upgraded to 4GB

Thank you for any help.

You can also use a Nano N150 USB Wireless Adapter. I don't know if there will a noticeable difference between the two. It depends on the internet speeds you have but It's a lot easier and probably cheaper too. It should have enhance range I believe because your current wireless adapter is only 802.11b/g

I had thought about using one but want to try and have everything internally first. The current internal card is 802.11b/g and drags the rest of the network down. I have another laptop, Satellite L455-S5975 and if the wifi upgrade goes well in the first laptop mentioned in the OP then i will probably upgrade the second laptop as well. I have found cards online ranging from $4.95 to $30. The current one is a full height and most of the new ones are half height but they make adapters for them to fit. If someone knows/has experience with toshiba and "whitelists" and what i can do. Oh and the current card has two antenna's .

Well I solved it myself. The Toshiba A505-S6981 16" Realtek Wireless Card V000190550 RTL8191SE card works like a champ. Upgrade to 802.11n for under $10. Installed and the drivers update if hooked up to an Internet connection via Ethernet before powering on and you're done.
