I am using Avast and MalwareBytes that both start while my PC is booting. I have Windows 7 Pro 32 bit.

I am writing programs with C++ Builder XE6. When I compile my code, and run my program, it consistently takes 6:05 (six minutes and 5 seconds) to run the program. Even if the compiler is not running, if I run the program directly it still takes 6+ minutes to run. I have tried closing everything possible to see what the conflict is, but even if I boot up and don't run any other program my program is still slow to load. I have tried closing MalwareAntiBytes, and telling Avast to stop scanning for an hour and this doesn't help. I have the folder where my program is located excluded from scanning in both Avast and MAB, I closed them just to be sure they aren't the issue.

Yesterday I was able to get my program to run in 7 seconds, which is about how long it takes on other PC's, but I am unable to do this consistently. I'm not even sure what I did to make it load that quickly, I've tried to reproduce the steps (closing MAB, disabling Avast).

I have run boot scans with Avast (nothing detected), and scans with MAB (nothing detected).

I feel I may have some malware installed that isn't being detected. Not even sure how to go about detecting an issue and resolving the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I remember once I found a forum where I uploaded all of my boot time information and a fabulous technician told me how to remove a service that was running that was bogging down my system.

Thanks for the help!

It would most likely be down to your antivirus software - I used to have avast and everything was slowed down. After switching to kaspersky everything launches almost immediately. Malwarebytes probably won't be causing this so it is most likely Avast's fault. Do you have any other programs or services that run at startup that you don't need that can be disabled?

I think I'll try uninstalling Avast and try something else. I have a few things that are auto started but haven't been able to find them in my startup group so I haven't been able to get rid of them. One is ApplePhotoStreams.

Thanks for the help, I'll try this tomorrow, it's getting late!

You may also want to look at something like Glary utilities or CCleaner if you need to disable everything from running at startup.

I uninstalled Avast, and installed a different AntiVirus. The entire PC runs faster, and my programs now load in seconds instead of minutes.

I think if I reinstalled Avast it would be OK, I think just having it installed over a long period (2-3 years) it got confused during one of the upgrades.

Yeah. Avast is pretty resource intensive, I avoid it if I can. Good to hear it's all sorted out now.
