I plug in my headphones. Sound SHOULD be coming to them (headphones work, computer works). I have to fiddle around in the realtek audio controls area switching between digital imput and speaker imput, switching between default device and default device for a while before they start working again. If i don't do this, the music will still appear to be playing on the computer (you still get those soundbars that's supposed to show the music loudness/beat thing.) but nothing comes out of the headphones or speakers.

Honestly i've had enough of your service. Is there a way to uninstall this shitty program safely? All i want is to be able to plug my headphones in and hear stuff properly. If i don't have anything in the audio jack, then route the sound through the speakers. What I don't need is to choose between 15 arbitrary sound qualities and whatever my analog settings are. This shouldn't be that complex.

You might want to try unticking the Realtek HD Audio Manager box in msconfig's Startup tab, to see if that stops their control software from starting up when you boot and interfering with something as simple as this. I'm assuming you've assigned the sockets on the rear of the PC to the correct outputs, unless the software is stopping you doing that properly as well, and that there are no problems with the audio headers/sockets at the mobo end.
