I have a Windows 8.1 Laptop. Just received an HP Envy 5660 as a gift and set it up using the automatic setup found at 123.hp.com. My computer originally had one device configured, HP Envy 5660 series (Network).
Today there is a second device, HPCE5020 (HP Envy 5660 series).

The HP Envy 5660 is configured as the default device, it shows as not connected

The HPCE5020 shows as being connected.

The printer does not seem to work reliabily now. I have had several documents go to the HP Envy 5660 print queue and dissappear.

What is going on?

(I posted this question on the HP forums too, so far no answer)

Solution
Unless you need to have two different printers installed for different purposes, you should have completely uninstalled any existing printer drivers & software from Windows before installing your new one.

Start over from scratch:

1) Turn off your new printer and unplug it's USB cable.
2) Remove all HP printer drivers and software from Windows, then restart your PC.
3) Now install your new printer strictly in accordance with the setup instructions.

Update: I think I have the reliability issue resolved now. I changed two configuration items in my environment.
1: - the printer is wakened from sleep via a multicast, so I enabled multicasting on my router.
2: - the printer did not seem to renew it's DCHP address, so I set the printer's network information manually.

So far, the printer has not hung up again.
