A little while back at the Windows 8 launch, I bought a Toshiba Satellite L855 laptop. Recently, the hard drive failed, so I replaced it with a bigger, faster one. I use it for gaming, mostly, and since it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, much of what I do on it is sub-par. A friend told me that Toshiba laptops cannot be upgraded in terms of graphics, processor, or RAM, as all of these components are affixed to the motherboard and cannot be removed or replaced. Is this true? If not, how or what can I upgrade. Thank you in advance; any information is helpful.

On laptops usually you cannot upgrade the cpu nor the gpu, since they are soldered to the motherboard and come with specific heating systems that will not work well if at all when replaced.
The ram usually can be replaced though, however replacing your current ram probably will not increase performance much if any. If you have only 4 gb ram and add an extra 4gb, that might improve overall performance a bit.
