My son got an Asus X75VC 17.3" screen laptop at Christmas. For some reason since day 1 it shuts off randomly without any warning. It does this about 4 times a day. He has taken to putting it to sleep after so long and it does seem to reduce the amount of times it turns off. It is brand new so surely it shouldn't be over heating. It is a wonderful laptop apart from this problem. As it is new should I request a new one from Asus or is it something that can be fixed easily. Read somewhere that Asus laptops don't always like Windows 8.1. Could this be the problem.

Before you do anything else, I'd recommend going to the Asus Support website and making sure that the BIOS and drivers are all up to date. There are Windows updates that occur between when the laptop is loaded and packaged and when you fire it up that can cause conflicts with the factory-loaded BIOS and drivers.
