Westinghouse TV - DW39F1Y1
Samsung DVD Player -1080P9
RCA Soundbar - RTS7010B
Cable - Comcast XFINITY PX001ANC

I want to connect my soundbar to give sound from my dvd player and cable box. I currently have the red/white cables running directly from soundbar to back of cable box. I can get surround sound from what i watch on tv, but i can't get surround sound from what i watch on my dvd player. The soundbar has an optical cable option, but my tv does not support that cable. How can I hook them up all up?

I was thinking i could run an hdmi cable from my dvd player directly to tv and then run the red/white cables directly from the sound bar to the tv. Would that allow me to hear the surround sound option from my dvd player?

Is there another way to make this work?

Solution
Connect the cable box and bluray to the TV with HDMI cables. Connect the soundbar to the TV with the analog audio output to the input to the soundbar. You will need a cable with the appropriate connectors depending on what the TV and soundbar use. Could be 2 RCA plugs or a single stereo mini plug.
