Hi all,

I'm looking to run the audio of my new Toshiba (40l1400u) through our aging RX-V557 Yamaha A/V receiver to our Bose sound system. I had no problem with our old, standard-definition TV, but now that we've upgraded, I can't figure out the problem. I don't see any HDTV input on the Yamaha nor on our cable box--or what I think is our cable box--so I'm not sure what the issue would be.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks much.

Giving you a totally ignorant response: I just used one of those generic red, white, and yellow cables (on either side) that worked with the last TV. The Toshiba has audio-out inputs on the back that are red and white on the back, so I assumed that would work. I've read several Q&As that have said you need to connect the TV to the cable box and the cable box to the receiver (through HDMI), but I didn't have to do that with the standard-def TV.

Thanks for the response.

Dude,

your tv has digital out, which your can insert in any of your receiver digital inputs (check the manual page 10 section 8). From there you can then out put the sound to your bose system.

The Bose system is run through an audio receiver, though--my parents have never run it directly through the Bose. I couldn't even tell you where something should be plugged directly into the Bose. Any ideas?

The Bose system also is like a full home theater system (i.e., with several speakers attached to the ceiling and whatnot) and has to be routed through the A/V, so I think I need to keep the Yamaha connected to it all. Thanks for the response.

Could it be just that I need one of these? http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Digital-Optical-Audio-Toslink/dp/B001TH7GSW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419632169&sr=8-1&keywords=optical+audio+cable

I realize now that there's both a digital audio out terminal on the TV (page 31 on here: http://www.brandsmartusa.com/pdfs/manuals/20175584.pdf) and a digital output terminal here (page 18 here http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/av/english/re/RX-V557_U.pdf) on the receiver--is this as simple a solution as getting that cable and plugging the two into one another possibly?
