So I've bought the aforementioned headset for my son (had Christmas early this year) and it's been great for a couple of days.

The problem started today when out of nowhere Youtube videos have no sound when playing in Chome. Tried out some games in his steam library and they are all working fine until I try Half Life and Half Life 2 which have no sound - weird. Tried playing some music with windows media and no sound.

Unplug headset and try regular headphones through front audio jack - no issues.
Try plugging headset into a different PC - no issues.

At this point I'm a little puzzled. Seems to be something funky going on in my son's OS that making it so the headset can only play from certain sources.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Before you do anything make sure that the Razer chroma is set as the default sound device. Once that's done try opening the browser and starting a youtube video. Does it work now?

As far as the games try going into their options and see if you can select the sound device manually. make sure you select the default device. you may need to restart the game.

So I tried uninstalling Razer Synapse and that fixed the problem. Luckily the headset works without the any additional software. He won't be able to change the lighting on the headset but it's otherwise fully functional which is good.

I did initially have a poke around inside Synapse to see if there was a setting in there that was causing the problem, but couldn't find anything.

I suppose I'll wait for a newerr version of the software and see how that treats us.

ok i was poking around online for a solution and... i ended up fixing the problem myself lol

though uninstalling synapse may work, the problem is, you (or the computer or some godly hand) had somehow muted the programs individually.

you can unmute them if you open up the configurator thing and go to mixer. make sure you have the program you want to listen to, playing in the background, or playing or active and open and everything, so like if you're watching a video, make sure the video's playing and it should show up in the mixer.

just unmute and then tada~

that's what i did X,D and now everything's working again
