Accidentaly, without force, touched laptop's USB port with headphones' pin, now laptop won't turn on

Hello.
So, of course I've googled this issue for quite a while and it seems like a common issue - something to do with static electricity? Thought before taking my laptop to warranty, maybe there is something I could try. And I'm not even sure if this would go under warranty?

Laptop's ASUS VivoBook S301LA. I read somewhere, that you have to hold your power button for 30-60 seconds. Nope, that didn't help. Some helpful citizen from the Ubuntuforums suggested "taking out the battery for a minute while it is not plugged into the AC. Reinsert and try to power up". Well, the problem is, that the laptop is built so that you couldn't take out the battery . He also suggested to "look for reset button" - couldn't find it. Most of the solutions I've found so far are for either PCs or laptop's that you can easily break apart and unplug the components.

So yeah, is warranty the only way I could fix this machine or is there anything I could do myself?

Non user serviceable battery? What kind of crap are they releasing now a days. It's as bad as the damn cell phones and friggin apple garbage. The moment you crack that thing open, your warranty is probably void.

So anyways, did you actually shove the headphone jack into the USB port? Or just scrape it along the outside. I know USB is supposed to have protection against shorts, but should doesn't mean it is. Did the computer shut off immediately after the jack hit the USB port, or did it continue operating normally until you shut off?

The "RESET" button is the power button.

There's no other button I'm aware of so if the computer won't start you need to replace under Warranty.

I do believe you shorted something. My dad had a Blackberry Playbook and attached it to his computer via USB but when he did so it fried and has never turned on since.

Guess there isn't much I can do, other than get it to the ASUS experts. But is there a way I could get a hold of the files on the HDD? I mean... I've heard of some horrific stories from people who've told me that after they've had their laptop back from the warranty or computer repair, the laptop/PC has been formatted. So it's suggested, that before you send your laptop/PC for a repair, you should backup your stuff, just in case. Well... I should've done it before this USB-headphone accident, but... there's that. I guess since I can't get the HDD, so that I could somehow plug/place it to another laptop, does it mean that there's no way I could get the files?

Looks like the bottom panel comes off easy enough. Those instruction should be similar to your laptop. Perhaps you can open it and dissconnect the battery for a few minutes without voiding after all. Just make sure there aren't any stickers you have to rip/poke through. Otherwise, that's also the only way to get the hard drive as well.
