My laptop failed to boot upon being woke up from sleep one day last month. Since then I have searched various forums all over the internet to find a solution. I can boot from various Linux live CD's but none of them can recover my data from the HDD. They all say the drive can't be mounted. SystemRescueCD sees the partitions but there is some thing corrupt somewhere in the boot sequence and I'm at a loss as to where. I have followed various tutorials as to how to fix the MBR, the UEFI, and BCD Store all to no avail. I have a dell provided RE-install DVD but it won't allow a refresh as it says the HDD is "locked". This is NOT a password lock, it is something else. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The Win 8.1 repair steps get to a point and then say there is "No operating system found". I know the windows partition is there because I can see it in Linux but nothing I've done has made it accessible. HELP !!

Solution
Are you able to get the DATA off of the drive using SystemRescueCD by navigating to \Users\(Your Username)? If you are, backup the data to an external drive, and instead of trying to refresh using the Dell DVD's, actually do a full reinstall.
