Hi
I know it's old but i have a Dell Vostro 1510, running windows 8 64bit
Recently i faced a problem. My device sometimes, switches between charging and not charging. For about 10 sec it does not recognize that i have plugged the charger and after that it starts charging again. This cycle continuous for a couple of times about 5 min and then it runs on power supply.
My battery is definitely cannot run the system more than 5 min.
I don't know it's because of windows 8 or there's something wrong about my adapter.
I used to have windows xp and this problem didn't arise in it. Also i used windows 8 for 2-3 months without a problem.
Can anyone help me?

Hi Rezash,

Please go to this link http://dell.to/1lTHx4p punch in the service tag go to drivers download & try updating the bios. Let me know how it goes. Your battery should be 30% to update bios. This link http://dell.to/1pSVYTo will show you how to update bios. Let us know how it goes.

I have a Dell Inspiron N7110 and had to buy a new battery from Microcenter after the original wouldn't hold charge. THIS is when the "plugged in, not charging" problem began. It had never happened before, although MANY times I had received messages that there was no adapter connected or that it was not a 65W Dell adapter (both false messages). Usually the problem was solved by simply disconnecting the adapter from the laptop and reconnecting. Sometimes I had to go into BIOS and disconnect and reconnect. BIOS or motherboard problem.

Here's the situation for me that just arose (for the fourth time) and how I easily fixed it:

When "Plugged in, not charging", 3rd LED from left flashes yellow four times, then white, repeating.

Try this.

Power down.
If flash pattern doesn't change even though powered down, disconnect adapter from laptop for a second, then reconnect.
If flash pattern ceases, power back up. Good to go.

If not, go into "safe mode" and power down and hope for best, applying "solution" above. This has also worked, twice.

I realize this may be a voodoo solution, but it's worth a try. Better than replacing with another adapter/battery/mobo that will probably result in same problem. Thank you, Dell.

Dell really should get its act together with its laptop charger/battery/BIOS/whatever the problem is. I've had problems since I bought the dang thing four years ago, but have so far avoided replacing motherboard, which Dell wanted to do after I'd owned the laptop ONE WEEK--not replace BRAND NEW COMPUTER, but open in up and stick in a refurbed mobo. Bunk..

Same problem (charging / not charging) with my laptop. It charges when the laptop is off. However, when I turn on, and the ac adapter is plugged, the problem begin: charging, and few seconds after, not charging (this process repeats forever =/).
I have updated BIOS driver and changed the battery (with DELL), but the problem was not solved.
Is there another idea to solve this?
