Glad to hear things are working again. If I might make a suggestion, I'd recommend a different AV, as McAfee just isn't really up to par (by my standards, at least). If you are looking for something free, you might want to give Bitdefender's free AV a go. McAfee is okay-ish... but I definitely would recommend finding a decent backup AV, just in case things go a bit strange again. Personally, I don't like Avast; but I'd recommend Avast over McAfee. Just throwing that out there.

Sounds like you are having a problem with Chrome. I'd guess there's something that is infecting Chrome, or that Chrome is interacting with, that is throwing red flags in Avast. Might be a big deal, might be something negligible; don't know without seeing what's happening.

Yeah... porn sites aren't really the biggest places for computer infections, these days. I'm probably one of the few people to admit I frequent many websites that are high risk (porn sites a plenty here). You know what kind of places I've seen the most common to be for infections? Video streaming, social networking, and shopping websites... seriously. I wish I was joking when I say that porn sites are probably safer than going on Facebook; then again, I can't stand FB, so it's kind of entertaining to me lol.

I would say to run IOBit Uninstaller, and remove everything associated with Chrome. Once you've fully removed Chrome, you might want to try using Aviator. Aviator is basically an edited version of Chrome, which removes a lot of vulnerabilities, and still lets you keep your add-ons.

i have tried everything. i have even uninstalled avast and installed mcafee and that fixed the pop up warning but i still cant see my apps in new tab plus. they are white and the only way i can tell what app is what is by hoovering over the app for the name of that app to show up.

It won't be a very customisable AV, but it will get the job done with minimal fuss. It's great, unless you really like tweaking everything. Then again, the best ones to tweak are always going to be paid.

I have tried Bitdefender and ended up uninstalling it almost immediately. You have to turn it's obnoxiously over aggressive firewall off and it scanned everything repeatedly despite my exclusion list. Slowed my system down to a crawl and my computer is clean (Windows 7). I like Avast, but it's starting to turn into another AVG (Which used to be my preferred software before they sold out). I might be giving Avira a try, or just stick with using my Mac where antivirus software is an afterthought!

Well, Avira isn't without its downfalls either. Just saying, every AV will have a fault. If it isn't pesky, it probably isn't being paranoid enough. There is such a thing as an overly paranoid AV/suite, but the fine line to walk is almost never met by any software.

And no... Mac AV's should never be an afterthought. Macs are just about as likely to be infected these days, due to their growing popularity. That propaganda wasn't even correct when they plastered it on TV, and it's a myth at this point. While Macs don't readily share the same viruses as Windows machines, they have a fair amount of threats that need to be addressed with quality software. If you aren't running a decent AV on your Mac, you better be careful.
