Hello. I currently have a Dell Inspiron and I am looking to upgrade its CPU. It currently has an Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU T4400 @2.20Ghz

What is the highest CPU this laptop can support?

To be more specific, I have included the information on the base of the laptop. Here it is as follows:

Dell Model: Inspiron 1545
Dell Model No: INS1545-A2RE
Country: UK

I don't get any poopup ads in a Chrome incognito window. Perhaps you have some malware on your computer which is causing the popup ads?

The site has everything you need - a list of compatible CPUs, his reasoning for picking the CPU he did, step by step instructions including pictures on how to disassemble the laptop and install the new CPU.

The CPU he picked should give you about a 30% speedup. That's pretty much the limit of performance improvement you can expect from a Core 2 Duo laptop. (Unless you went to a quad core processor, but the laptop's cooling likely isn't sufficient for a quad core.) To go beyond that, you'd need a newer laptop.

If your complaint is general slowness while using the laptop, not it taking a long time...

Would there be any performance improvements? My laptop is slow at the moment.

Would it also be compatible (the CPU)?

I do not want to spend £30 and find out it does not work :D

What an awful website. Ads keep popping up everywhere and will not stop.

Also, please see my other reply.

Thanks for the help so far.

If your complaint is general slowness while using the laptop, not it taking a long time to complete CPU-intensive tasks, try replacing the HDD with a SSD. That laptop's SATA interface is only SATA 2, but most of the SSD's speed benefits come from random read/writes of small files which never exceed about 50 MB/s even on SATA 3. When you eventually upgrade your laptop, you can remove the SSD and reuse it in whatever new computer you buy.

I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 1545 from a Pentium T4400 to an Intel Core 2 Duo P8700. I am going to do a further upgrade to a Intel Core 2 Duo T9400. This processor has 6mb of cache instead of the 3mb my current processor has. The Dell Inspiron 1545 can accept up to a Intel Core 2 Duo T9900.

Here is a list of possible cpu upgrades for the Dell Inspiron 1545. I have also included some recent Ebay buy it now prices for used cpu's to give an idea of the current used prices.

Intel Core 2 Duo mobile cpu compatible upgrades for a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop"

Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 3.06-GHz 6M 1066-Mhz CPU 35-watts - $59

Intel Core 2 Duo T9800 2.93-GHz 6M 1066-MHz CPU 35-watts - $30

Intel Core 2 Duo P9700 2.80-GHz 6M 1066-MHz CPU 25-watts - $34

Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.80-GHz 6M 1066-MHz CPU 35-watts - $20

Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 2.60-GHz 6M 800-MHz CPU 35-watts - $40

Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 2.53-GHz 6M 1066-MHz CPU 25-watts - $20

Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53 GHz 6M 1066-MHz CPU 25-watts - $11

Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.50-GHz 6M 800-MHz CPU 35-watts - $27

Intel Core 2 Duo P8800 2.66-GHz 3M 1066-Mhz CPU 25-watts - $12

Search eBay and be patient. I got a T9900 for $52 back in August. Mobile C2D's, even the very best ones, don't cost that much anymore. But a T9800 or T9900 makes a huge difference in an Inspiron 1545. Compared to a T4400, it's the difference between being borderline unusable and being highly useful.
