Hey, yall. The software IPVanish recently came out with an update to the software, so I decided it was a good idea to update that. I was running the software when it prompted me and everything was fine and working as intended.

After downloading and installing the new update (while the software was still running), I'm no longer able to connect to any of the servers. UDP and TCP both act the same. I will choose a server, hit connect. It does the usual "Connecting to XXXXXXX" then "Initiating/Configuring VPN." However, it then disconnects and gives the message "Disconnected: Not Secure IP Address: XX.XXX.XXX.XX."

I've put in a support ticket with them and haven't yet heard back, so I figured I'd give you good people the opportunity to help me out. Any ideas? Anyone with a similar issue? Thanks!

That is a known issue, the best that you can do is determine where that traffic is really going using a wireshark capture. But that is about it, I used to use their service back in 2012 but they keep a lot of information about you on their servers like usernames passwords etc... But I either use https://mullvad.net/en/ which keeps nothing and doesn't log anything even your personal info or username and password. You just download type in the number and try it out during the trial period which would be a good alternative until their support emails you back. Also if you are from a country where they block certain protocols they have something that does the same thing as dust did where it shapes the traffic to look like something else so it can get through a firewall. I just pay with my leftover bitcoins because I use the paid for version atm.

Well, turns out I was forced to uninstall the TAP network drivers then uninstall the application. Reboot and reinstall the software (which installs the TAP drivers). Everything is back on the up and up. Kind of a pain in the butt as nobody had a solution for 2 hours before another user posted on the IPVanish forums and pointed to the solution.

On a side note, what's the big deal behind storing usernames and passwords? So they have a username and password - that can't exactly be traced back to any one person...?

Well it wasn't so much passwords and usernames, but they collect things like your browsing habit's, they also grab your cookies. All of this stuff to me isn't true anonymity on the webs because they also keep logs on your ip, but they do clear it every 30 days. It just more about personal preferences, but I'd rather not leave any footsteps on the web, then leave any that are even being monitored by a VPN. Not because of legal issues but because I feel that is the way the web should be. It all just comes down to who you trust with your information.
