Hey guys, so I have been looking around for a while now and I think I will go with this pair plus this subwoofer. The subwoofer is 200w and the two floorstanding speakers are 120w. (The subwoofer is also active) I was thinking about getting a 5.1 speaker system but isn't that just waisting watts on other non used speakers? What would be the best option to buy a 2.1 receiver or keep the 5.1 and just leave the watts lying around?

These are the speakers https://www.audioaustralia.com.au/accusound-ref-5-5xd-120w-rms-floorstanding-pair-5yr-warranty-free-shipping.html

Subwoofer: https://www.audioaustralia.com.au/accusound-8-6xd-subwoofer-12-200w-rms-5yr-warranty-free-shipping.html

Thanks.

A stereo receiver will probably give you better sound for the same price then a surround sound receiver. It will need to have a sub or preamp output to make connecting the sub easier.
If you do watch movies on this system then a surround receiver would allow you to use a center speaker which will give you better dialogue clarity then just the two fronts.
