Hello,

I have a Desktop with a ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard and a Nvidia GTX 670 video card.

I recently tried hooking up my Yamaha RX-V675 receiver to my computer's motherboard via HDMI, to get rid of my Logitech 5.1 speakers. However, I only get stereo sound.

I have set my PC's sound setting to 5.1 -- and the test shows all the speakers are working -- but when I try to play music or video, its strictly stereo.

I know this question has been posted before but it all the threads I read are inconclusive. Would anyone know if there is a way to get 5.1 Surround Sound from your PC's motherboard through HDMI?

Thank You!

If your source is stereo, it'll be played as stereo (plus sub if bass management is on). Nearly all music is stereo, I'm willing to bet you do not have any multichannel stuff. Also, not all software supports multichannel content and will only play as stereo.

If testing your speakers show that multichannel is working (which you say they are), then it's the above problem.

However, you can switch your Yamaha to ProLogic IIx and it'll use all your speakers. Read up on the sound modes your receiver offers starting on page 47 of the manual.
