hello tom'sguide.com,
Yesterday my laptop (packard bell easynote tm98) shut itself off while gaming. now when i try to turn it on, it starts up for about 5 seconds, then the fan becomes really loud, and then it just turns itself off. also, sometimes it starts itself up again too. does anyone know if this can be fixed? i've already removed the battery and the charger and then held down the power button for 30 seconds, i've opened it up to check for any obvious damage, but could find none. i've also tried to replace the cmos battery, but it's stuck. thanks in advance!

enabling safe mode got me logged in, but then the fan sped up and it turned off again. i resetted the settings in the f2 menu, which i believe is called the cmos menu? also it's making beeps every 15 seconds.

It could have over heated when you were gaming, the OS or something may have bugged to make the computer think when it started it was still over heating causing it to shut down to stop the heat from causing damage; that would also be why the laptops fan was going crazy. The CMOS battery would the answer to all of that... Try and pull it out and replace it. If that doesn't work best bet is take it to a shop and have it looked at. Hope this offers some help.
