I have a Compaw 6510b, working find till yesterday, when I had intermediate problems, it either didn't recolonize the power cord was plugged in or I'd get an HP smart adapter error about the plug not supplying enough power. Also while this was going on, I kept getting messages from windows stating it was safe to remove me network adapter. I checked it this morning and the problem seemed to be gone, so I shut it down and installed the processor and ram upgrade that arrived today, and after installing everything, it fails to boot, the power light doesn't even come on, to make sure it wasn't the parts I put in causing the problem I reinstalled all the old components, still the laptop is completely dead, no power, no lights no nothing.

Perhaps you power adapter went south on you. Does it have a light? Worst case scenario, the ac jack is loose on the mainboard. Either can be found on ebay for cheap, but the ac jack is a bitch to replace. Some of them plug into the mainboard making it mush easier. Do you have a volt meter to check the output pf you power supply. Should be around 19volts. Good luck! Are you sure your new cpu is compatible?

The power supply was recently bought new from ebay, it was a cheap 2 prong supply with no lights on it. I noticed that the power adapter no longer gets warm/hot, and when I plugged in the supply after getting every thing installed, the one prong sparked as I plugged it into the wall. I'm made sure before hand the the processor was compatible(t7500), I reinstalled the old processor and memory and still no power. It's like the batter is removed and power supply is unplugged even tho thy aren't.

I should be warm, but if you ac jack has come disconnected from your mainboard, there would be nothing to draw power. So I am really not sure what to tell you. Generally a spark is a good sign meaning it is drawing power. I would probably try another power supply. Good luck!

I just noticed that the port on the bottom of the laptop where the docking station connects to feels warm if I have it plugged in, but nothing else feels warm. The port for the docking station is located right behind the battery.

Just tired the power adapter on a friends laptop and it worked fine, even tried his power adapter on mine and still no boot. I'm suspecting a motherboard failure.

I'm gonna contact the seller I bought it from, it came with a 30 warranty, gonna return it and get a refund or have them send a replacement.

Warranty isn't valid since I upgraded the processor and memory, It seems to be working for the time being, done some further checking and their where two screws inside rattling around under the motherboard, since removing the screws it seems to be working. I have no clue how the screws got loose, but the one was from the the motherboard and the other was a case screw.
