For over a month now I have had problems using the internet on my acer Windows 8 laptop with the wifi in my apartment. I connect just fine to the network, but when I try to load anything on my browser it is incredibly slow to the point where the connection times out. Sometimes I can get a few pages to load for awhile, but it always eventually becomes unusable. Any other network I use with my laptop, however, like at school everything loads just fine. It seems as though I only started having this problem after my computer forced me to download Windows 8.1. Any help on how to fix this problem would be very much appreciated. Thank you :)

Have you looked at how many interfering WIFI signals are visible? You can use something like...

Have you looked at how many interfering WIFI signals are visible? You can use something like WIFI Analyzer to see a lot of info. If your laptop supports dual band (2.4 and 5Ghz) wireless, you might benefit from getting a dual band router and switching to the 5Ghz band.

When I bring up the menu to connect to the internet I only ever see one WiFi network so I don't think that's the issue. The problem has also seemed to have gotten worse over these past months as now at both my parent's house and my apartment I have to be within 2 feet or so of the router to connect at all. It's usable internet, so in other words if I stay next to the router it works just fine, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having a laptop. My parents have suggested I purchase malware bytes. Could that solve the problem? I also took in my laptop to Geek Squad around Christmas where they ran a diagnostic and installed a new anti-virus program. It got rid of all the virus problems I had, but it hasn't helped with the internet connectivity. Thanks so much for the continued support!
