I am a college student looking to upgrade from my current laptop - a Samsung 300V3A. It's worked pretty well - apart from having a pretty weak graphics card - but it's on its way out and I'm on the lookout for a newer one.

My budget is around $300-600 (US). I'm not looking for a real workhorse or a high-end graphics laptop, but I am looking for a step up from the lowest-end.
My current laptop is 15.5", 1366x768. I'd like to keep the same size (so I can keep accessories like my bag); going larger in resolution is fine but not a priority.
Currently I have 600 GB internal memory; I don't want to go lower than 500 and would really like if I was able to get 1 TB.
I would like an optical (CD/DVD) drive but it shouldn't be too much trouble to get an external one if need be.

Mainly I will be using the laptop for schoolwork. This includes graphic design - Photoshop, Manga Studio, InDesign, Illustrator - video editing - Premiere Elements, Microsoft Expression Encoder - and potentially game design - Unreal, Unity, 3DS Max. I work at high-resolution artwork and would like to avoid lag when painting digitally. I also would like a screen that realistically renders colors - my current system sometimes shows incorrect vertical lines on certain tones.

I also will be playing games. I don't need to play games on High (I'm fine with Low or Medium) and don't generally play the latest, most intensive titles. Some games I play regularly include Team Fortress 2, Killing Floor, Civilization V, and Street Fighter IV. I have purchased a few games I have trouble running - Sleeping Dogs, Saints Row 3 & 4, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and Payday 2. Again, my priority is not to run these as good as possible but merely being able to play them at a reasonable framerate.

I'm still pretty new at looking at laptops, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. The Lenovo Z50 (80EC000TUS) on NewEgg caught my eye, but I'm still shopping around.
Also: Should I look to buy today or should I wait until Cyber Monday?

Thanks!

I'm having a little trouble tracking down the ones you've mentioned (especially the ASUS) - do you have links for them? The Amazon links I have been able to find don't provide much info about graphics and seem to be closer to the high end of my budget.

Also, I should mentioned - a touch screen is not at all a priority for me (I use a graphics tablet) so if there is a cheaper alternative without one that's just fine.

I'm not so much dependent on Amazon as it is the only American site I could find some links on.
I've also been shopping on newegg.com and tigerdirect.com
