How to connect broken screen laptop to Tv

My acer laptop window 8 screen has been broken and I tried to connect it to my TV with hdmI cord but nothing is displaying on the tv screen please help out what can I do because I need to use the laptop very urgent

Plug the HDMI cable into the TV and your laptop,
Turn on your laptop
Wait until windows has loaded up,
Press the key combination to toggle output (different depending on laptop, for Samsung its F4, for ASUS its FN+F8/F8)
Should toggle between main display, mirrored, extended
Once either mode is enabled, right click, display, make this display main display
