I am looking for a new laptop for around $1000 or less.
Desired specs:
cpu: i7
ram: at least 8gb
size: 14-15" preferred, 1" thick or less Highly desired
screen: 1080p and a good quality screen
hard drive: ssd or upgradeable to ssd
connections: usb 3.0, hdmi, gigabit ethernet
wireless: ac preferred, but n minimum
battery life: very important (along with thickness) I want 5+ hours use for basic computing and 7+ preferred
Graphics: I would prefer dedicated graphics; Would use it for LOL, hearthstone, etc. use ps4 mainly for gaming

To sum it up I am looking for a thin, fast, computer with great battery life and screen that is able to handle some gaming.
Currently looking at:
Asus N550JK
Dell Insipron 15 7000
Lenovo Y50
Lenovo U530
Apple Macbook Air (13") (I know it has the smaller screen)

I wanted to know your thoughts and what experiences you have had with these computers.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

First off, don't touch the MacBook Air, sure out of all of these it has the BEST battery life (roughly about 11 hours if you get the 2014 version). The Lenovo Y50 would probably have the best specs overall if you want a powerful gaming laptop for under $1000. The ASUS and Dell just depends on the specs you are going with them for.

If you want a longer battery life though, the Dell Inspirion with the i7-4510U with the GTX 750M (as listed on dell's website isn't that bad) is ok, or on lenovo's site, switch down to the Lenovo Y40 which is an inch smaller, but will use the U-series processors for better battery life.

Unfortunately the Asus variants for that model don't really have a model that has the U-series processor. And the Lenovo...

I'd say for the Y50, ballpark of 5.5 hours, the smaller Y40 will get about 7.5 hours and supposedly the Dell can get 9 hours just doing web surfing and etc. But battery life is inversely proportional to its graphical performance too so take that into consideration.

Check out PCSpecialist's 15.6" Cosmos II laptop. It has a nice looking, slim chassis and is customisable to make it anything from a work/web browsing laptop to one that can play mid level games. Here is the link: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/cosmosII/

Screen size: 15 inch
