Explorer not working after update

Last weekend I ran routine updates on my laptop (runs on windows 8), now internet explorer isn't working. Laptop doesn't have chrome, and obviously cant get online to download. Mail coming through Outlook as normal so it's not the wifi. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Can you give some more details as to what you mean by "not working"?

try resetting Internet Explorer by following these steps: 1. open run window by pressing Win key + r , now type in inetcpl.cpl and then press enter , now u should be having the tools window of internet explorer. 2. go to advanced and then at the bottom click on the option Reset 3. click next and once the process is done you should be seeing 3 green check marks.. Now close everything and then open Internet exp and check if its working now
