Laptop Cooling pad selection

Solution
You need to research either by reading the reviews or the product description. The DEEPCOOL Multi Core X6 was easy enough since Newegg's site had pictures provided by the manufacturer that shows air being blown upwards.

Based on my search it is only the more expensive laptop coolers that blows air up towards the laptop.

The problem with laptop cooling pads is that different laptops generate heat in different locations, so a pad that works for one may not work so well for another

My recommendation would be, if you haven't tried this already, simply mount your laptop on a small book rather than directly on a desk or whatever... in many/most cases, this is actually all that's needed...

That's what I'm doing for years. I know well about cooling, but my friend needs a stand+cooler combination device to keep under the laptop. So just wondering how much will be enough. Saw a cooler with 700 RPM, the reviewers said it doesn't worth :/

There are basically two types of laptop coolers. One that blows air up to the laptop and into the vents underneath the laptop. The other type blows downward onto the table and attempts to suck heat away from the laptop. More expensive coolers blows air up into the laptop while it seems less expensive coolers blows air down. Blowing air up is a more effective way to cool a laptop, but it can also blow dust up into the laptop so you need to make sure the table is clean.

The effectiveness basically depends on if the vents underneath the laptop are close enough to the fan(s) in the laptop cooler, plus if there is enough space inside the laptop for air to flow effectively. That will vary from laptop to laptop. So while "Laptop Cooler X" may lower temps in one laptop model by 6C, for another laptop model it may only lower temps by 3C. It all depends on the design of the laptop.

My 15.6" Dell Latitude 3540 does not get too hot when I use it to play games, but nevertheless I decided to order the DEEPCOOL Multi Core X6 yesterday because having lower temps is always better than having higher temps. Currently the i5-4200u maxes out at 73C and the Radeon HD 8850m maxes out at 64C. Not bad at all, but like I said, having lower temps is better. Hopefully the laptop cooler can lower temps by at least 5C. I guess I will fined out next week.

The Deepcool has 4 fans that blows air up to the laptop. All fans can be turned on, or only the bottom two fans can be turned on, or only the top two fans can be turned on.

I can't get that because I'm from India. Can you choose a cooler for me?

My laptop is Lenovo Z560. It has all its vents (probably intake vents) beneath on the left half of the base. Right half the base contains ODD and HDD. So, there are no vents that side.

This is the cooling pad that I ordered today. It will likely be good for your laptop because the vents seems to be on the bottom middle / left and top left. A cooling pad with a huge center fan probably may not push much air into the bottom and top left vents.

If it is too expensive for your taste, then you need to do a bit of research for a cooling pad that blow air up into the laptop which fits your budget. It took quite a bit of time for me to find something like the DeepCool cooler which I believe will be decent for my Dell Latitude 3540.
