Will increasing RAM improve performance?

I'm looking for a laptop for school, and the one I currently have is a Lenovo S10-3 netbook: Atom N450, 1GB DDR2 RAM. It's a bit sluggish, obviously, but after installing a light Linux distro it has actually become usable. So my question is: if I increase the RAM to 2 GB, will performance improve? I will be multitasking I.E. having a web browser and Writer open simultaneously.

More ram in all slots filled is better like the mobo says cap32 or cap 16 so on your mobo takes in info evenly in all slots when full and dishes out info thru all 4 slots or 2 slot whatever your mobo requires it runs to it.s full what the spec tells you on your mobo......if not then you have flaut with your mobo........anyone tells you dif is wrong..............it.s like you fill all slots and say well only 2 slots are working and reciveing only 8 GB being used....but you have all four slots full to max 32GB............truth is and is a fact all is being used in all slots.....one slot doesn.t just sit and isn.t used........:) hope you and any one who reads understands
