Are Audioengine speakers good? or razer leviathan

Solution
Hey,

My fault, I should have been a bit more specific in what I was asking.

A few questions;
Is this a desktop solution? I'm assuming it's going to connect to a computer, but is it just desktop use or is this more a HT type environment? Are we looking at strictly 2.0(1)? And is there size limitations?

How important is it to have the deeper base? The better and lower the base (generally at this price point), the more you'll sacrifice sound quality on the mids and highs.

Did you have a specific budget in mind? I took the A5+'s as the limit, but are you willing to go higher?

Hey there,

The Audioengines are pretty decent active speakers. The difference between the two is that the A5+ uses a larger woofer and has a more capable amp, which means that it can play lower frequencies and also play a little bit louder.

I really don't know anything about the razer, but I'm willing to bet that you shouldn't bother with it.

As far as other stuff to look at:

Emotiva, given the price of the items you are looking at I'd seriously consider the 5s and I personally would chose them over the Audioengines.

There's Swan, several of which you could chose from, though I'd probably suggest the M50W

What do you plan of using them for?

deep bases is not a necessary thing for me

I would probably say the Emotiva's would be a good choice, either the 4s or 5s. And I'll take back my original recommendation and say that instead perhaps the 4s should be considered, there just isn't enough bass extension between the two to pay an additional $50, especially since you are not that concerned about it.

The Emotiva's will be more neutral and transparent compared with the Audioengines, and Swans.
The M50W's will play lower than either, about 3-4 whole notes on a scale and are cheaper.

I did find another interesting set yesterday, the Focal XS 2.1 system, refurbished for $300 at

I haven't heard them, but I'm willing to bet that they will sound better than the Swans (if you don't mind a higher crossover between sat and sub) and they have the same frequency range.
