I'm building a HTPC for movies soon, and I have all the components selected, except for a sound card. Though my entire PC gaming life, I've used nothing but headphones, so anything regarding sound is completely alien to me. So, any suggestions/tips for a solid soundcard?

NOTE: This HTPC is for movies and TV only. I plan on keeping all games on my desktop.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section or is a duplicate thread, I'm a bit new here. :p

I guess the question is do you need a sound card? There are motherboards out there that offer premium sound, but unless you have heaps of other audio equipment you aren't going to notice a whole lot of difference between discrete and onboard sound.

Asus Xonar DX Helped me get rid of a microphone issue on my last motherboard, and I have been using it since, other then that they haven't really been necessary. No complaints on the last several realtek onboard chipsets I have had.
