Windows 8.1 update made my laptop bugged.

I have a windows 8 laptop, and I ran into a problem. About 7 months ago, I broke my laptop screen, so I decided to get an external monitor. The monitor never showed the startup or BIOS and went straight to the desktop; I decided to live with the problem for a while. But then a windows 8.1 update kept bugging me and all I had to do was check "remind me later". But then it kept happening, and then suddenly one more box popped up and immediately started the windows 8.1 update. Like I said, I can't see anything in the bios, menu etc.- just the password screen. so the update got done downloading, I suppose; press the power button, and it shows that it's turned on, but shows nothing on the monitor. I've already tried the solution where you press "fn f4" and all that, but it only works on the desktop- but I can't get to the desktop if it shows literally nothing on the screen. My monitor is perfectly fine btw, it shows the startup for it and everything. Soooo... What should I do?

Solution
Soooo... What should I do?

Fix the laptop screen.

Laptops almost always use the laptop screen as primary, and you can't force it to be other. Windows is waiting for something on that primary screen.

I assumed this was what I had to do, I'll try it. But how come the external monitor was working perfectly fine? About a week ago I could see everything on the monitor.

[edit] I also forgot to tell you that the laptop is in like an infinite boot cycle- it stays on for like 1 whole minute, then completely restarts, it keeps doing this.

There is maybe a kind of work around to this. You could unplug your external monitor. Look then on youtube for a video showing someone updating their system from 8 to 8.1. chances are that your mouse will still click the right areas on the screen even with it busted. Just use your best judgement to match up the areas on your screen with the areas on the video you're watching. Most likely you just have to click next a few times and it will then bring you back to the desktop screen. Then plug in your external monitor again and hit the windows button and P at the same time on your keyboard, push the down arrow one, and then push enter. This will use the external monitor as the primary then.
