Can't get surround sound: PS3 -> TV -> Receiver

Hello,

My TV is a Samsung un46c6300sf, and my receiver is a Sony str-k750p. I have the PS3 going to the TV via HDMI, and the TV going to the receiver via optical cable.

I set the PS3 to output Dolby Surround, DTS, and Linear 5.1 (on top of the Linear 2-channel output that I can't unselect), and the TV is set to output PCM to external speakers (the only option it will allow). The receiver is set on AFD auto, but I can't get more than 2-channel audio plus the subwoofer. I've also tried the movie mode on the receiver, which outputs audio to all speakers, but it's not sending all the channels and I'm definitely missing in-game dialog using this setting.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get this to work? If I connect the PS3 directly to the receiver via optical cable, it works like a dream and I get Dolby Digital Surround...

Thanks!

Did some more research and you are right, HDCP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection) prevents the TV from passing through 5.1 audio from HDMI to the optical output. Very frustrating.

Anyone find a workaround for this? If you use the optical out on the PS3 to hear surround, it is out of sync with the video (my receiver does not have a delay correction). So basically I can't watch a blu-ray disc in surround because of poorly thought through HDCP restrictions. My dish DVR through HDMI > TV > optical out to stereo works perfect as surround Dolby Digital, so I know the TV can convert HDMI to Optical in DD properly. They need to get rid of HDCP. It only makes for poor usability without any real protection for the source.
