(games run from my external hard drive) pls help

Solution
I think 55 is safe. A little high, but not dangerous. Try running a utility that reports your drive's SMART status. If the health has degraded, you should consider replacing the drive.

As for your USB 3.0 problem, that could be either the driver or the physical port.
Are you keeping the laptop on a flat, hard surface? Using laptops on a bed or your lap can lead to the vents being blocked from taking air in to cool the laptop off properly.

Also, if it has been used for awhile, the exhaust vents and the fans can become dirty. It may need an air compressor taken to it if that's the case.
