So I am after a laptop that I can use for my degree, and will carry me through at least my post grad, I am looking at a Acer C720, but I will swap the solid state drive and put a Samsung 840 Evo in, I would go for a 4GB version, although I am unsure if it can go past 4GB memory also, which then led me to look at a X201 laptop, which would have 8GB RAM, a extended battery, and also a solid state drive.
Now I have no idea what to look for when it comes to programming, and I will be doing Java and Python, as well as CCNA and other things, and I already have a desktop for heavy tasks, which is why I don't want to spend a high amount on the laptop, it will be a secondary PC.

I use Linux as my primary OS currently also, but I can always run a virtual machine or switch my desktop to Windows if needs must.

Here is what I would ideally look for in a laptop.
Good battery life - 7+ hours
Good upgradability - Solid State Drive and RAM, and maybe battery.
Screen size - 11" to 13" for portability
Cheap

Any Ideas?

Thanks

x220 uses newer generation processors, screen is about 1/2inch longer diagonally. Ports should be same or very similar.
