I'd just like to make sure I'm not shafting myself by overpaying a lot considering it's quite a budget.

I don't think so.

Before I decided to build my own desktop, I planned to get a laptop. I spent three months studying things and came to the conclusion (at that time) that the Sager NP 8278-S was the right computer, the best, cheapest, goodest :). Today, I would be looking at the 9xx version of that or the NP 9377-S.

Sager (from an integrator) has a good reputation, handles heat and noise well, and lacks the 'design', bling or name that adds to the price. ASUS ROG may be a little superior in build and heat management, but not at that price point.
