okay, so my little brother has a laptop he got for his birthday, and he has managed to download something called a troji virus? i dont know what it is or what it actually does, but he is convinced that it is responsible for all the evil in his life. can someone please help me get it out for him?

Solution
That's why you need solid anti virus protection. You can get a license from a good software company like Bitdefender or AVG for around the $50 range.

But if you have a Windows 7 or 8 disc you can wipe the hard drive, reinstall the OS and it will work like normal.

it was a slight exaggeration because all issues with him are like nuclear issues. ive looked it up online, and i cant see any solutions being given except to restore the cpu to a previous date, but there isnt a backup to restore it to, nor do i know when the issue started and he doesnt understand the issue well enough to tell me when it started.

You mean restore the computer, not cpu (processor). Anyways, download the free version of Malwarebytes and run a scan. Also do ctrl-alt-del and open task manager and under performance check to see what has a high percentage. You may be able to terminate/track the source files o the virus there and permananetely delete them.

hey guys, sorry it took so long to get back to all of you, i fell asleep. no other reason, im sorry, i fell asleep for a long time. now, my brother has an antivirus, we tried malwarebytes, and the information on the virus seems to say it's a browser hijacker? I cant install my antivirus because family drama, his antivirus is pure shite, i was wondering if there is a manual way to get rid of it to get my household off of my back. ill probably be closing this thread later today because, honestly, he needs antivirus that works and he doesnt want to change his. i know that there isn't a whole lot anyone can do about his stubbornness, if someone does have an idea great, if not then i understand. thank you, toms hardware community for all of your help.

Somehow I highly doubt it's a browser hijacker, I think he might be wearing the tin foil hat a little too tightly on this one.

But seriously though if you have a Windows 7 or 8 disc and the driver software you might want to reformat the laptop and reinstall Windows, that should get it working again. If you are running Windows 7 or 8, too, you could run a system restore back to the last point where the system worked properly, and that's relatively easy to do.
