Microphones don't make sound

I have 2 microphone ports on my computer, one in the front and one in the back. They are both realtek. When I plug a mic into the back port and try to speak into it, no sound is made. I try this with other mics and I get the same result. I try plugging the mic into the front mic port, but it just makes a buzzing noise and still doesn't make sound. What doesn't make sense is i have tried these microphones on other computers, yet they don't transmit sound. They were working completely fine before this. Did the mics somehow break? Or is something wrong with my sound card?
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

You will need to provide us your operating system for an accurate resolution. Are you using apple? windows? Do the microphones work on any other device? there are steps we can provide such as Right click your speaker icon near your time on the start menu, then select "Recording Devices" then you will have the window that shows the connected devices and the settings. If you don't see this let us know. Include your operating system.

OS: Windows 7 Utlimate 64-Bit, and the mics did not work on another computer, yet they have worked before.
The one headset mic makes no sound at all on both ports, while the second one makes a buzzing noise in the front port and no sound in the back port
This all also happened after the one headset mic wire was accidentally yanked from the back mic port. That could have broke it and the back mic port, but why the one mic doesn't work on the back port, I have no idea.
Should I just try another mic?

Tripping on the cable and causing damage to the tiny motherboard connector is plausible. Yanking would as well. Testing the headphone in another system and its not working indicates the cable may have been damaged to cause direct wire grounding inside the sleeve. Testing another set of ear buds on the mic port can provide a quick answer if the port is working. Even ear buds will transmit some sound to the PC as a microphone, just not as loud and clear. Its a quick easy test though. But if you have another microphone check it instead. Remember you can see the sound emulation from any microphone that is working in windows 7 by right clicking the speaker icon, then left clicking "recording devices: you can then see the connected microphones bouncing the green slider bar as they receive sound.
