Asus Strix 970 0dB cooling - what about the video RAM.

While the passive cooling is OK for the chip I worry about the video RAM on the Asus Strix card. I do not know how hot GDDR5 runs or if it needs a breeze of cool air passing over it. GDDR3 ran hot, I know that.

Some people are saying they would prefer a low spin fan curve on the Strix and I agree. The video RAM chips sit under the heatsink area and if the fans were turning slowly it would pass cooling on to them.

NB: I put a post up about this a while ago, but it has disappeared. I guess TH removed it by mistake.

A user called Titillating left this reply to my previous thread, and I think it only fair I paste it in here. After they made the effort to join a discussion, however as I say the original thread was removed.

Quote Titillating, "Well it seems like it was designed to disperse heat up to that level throughout your case. I'd assume it would be fine as long as your case is adequately cooled. MSI's cards have the same feature and their software gives you the option of manually changing the fan settings. ASUS probably does the same, but I'm not familiar with their line of cards so I can't say for sure.

Anyway, while your concerns are totally valid, I'd lean towards saying that it really shouldn't be a problem. After all, it was designed that way and if it weren't effective to some degree, they would receive massive backlash and wave after wave of RMA requests."
