I've completely screwed up my laptop haven't I!? Made the ultimate noob mistake.
I reassembled my acer following a teardown manual so I could check what was up with my power jack. Turns out that the black wire is completely disconnected but that's the least of my problems.
After reassembling it just wouldn't turn on. Pressed the power button and zip, nada!
I remembered pulling out one of the ribbon cables attached behind the keyboard so I took everything apart again, put the ribbon cable in and put it all back together, still nothing.
I don't understand what could have possibly gone wrong! I removed the battery first and foremost, I was extremely careful. Could I have potentially messed up my CPU/motherboard ?
Ahhh I am so worried

Solution
If it was working prior to connecting the black wire, could that be the issue? It definitely sounds power related. If your CPU/motherboard were running into problems, you'd usually at least be able to turn on the laptop and hear some kind of noise coming from it.
